چکیده

We study the Horizon Wavefunction (HWF) description of a generalized uncertainty principle inspired metric that admits sub-Planckian black holes, where the black hole mass m is replaced by M = m ( 1 + β2 M2 Pl m2 ) . Considering the case of a wave-packet shaped by a Gaussian distribution, we compute the HWF and the probability PBH that the source is a (quantum) black hole, i.e. that it lies within its horizon radius. The case β < 0 is qualitatively similar to the standard Schwarzschild case, and the general shape of PBH is maintained when decreasing the free parameter, but shifted to reduce the probability for the particle to be a black hole accordingly. The probability grows with increasing mass slowly for more negative β, and drops to 0 for a minimum mass value. The scenario differs in significantly for increasing β > 0, where a minimum in PBH is encountered, thus meaning that every particle has some probability of decaying to a black hole. Furthermore, for sufficiently large β we find that every particle is a quantum black hole, in agreement with the intuitive effect of increasing β, which creates larger M and RH terms. This is likely due to a “dimensional reduction” feature of the model, where the black hole characteristics for sub-Planckian black holes mimic those in (1 + 1)-dimensions and the horizon size grows as RH ∼M−1.

This paper is the continuation of a study into the information paradox problem started by the author in his earlier works. It is demonstrated that the obtained results agree well with the canoni-cal viewpo...

Quantum Mechanics and the Generalized Uncertainty Principle

There is reason to believe in the existence of a minimal length that can in principle be measured. This viewpoint stems in part from the realization that if enough massenergy is confined to a small region of space, a black hole must form. For example if one increases the energy of colliding particles beyond the Planck energy, one expects the short distance effects to be hidden behind an event h...

Entropy of the Schwarzschild black hole to all orders in the Planck length

Considering corrections to all orders in the Planck length on the quantum state density from a generalized uncertainty principle (GUP), we calculate the statistical entropy of the scalar field on the background of the Schwarzschild black hole without any cutoff. We obtain the entropy of the massive scalar field proportional to the horizon area. PACS: 04.70.-s, 04.70.Dy, 04.62.+v

Gravitation, the Quantum, and Bohr’s Correspondence Principle

The black hole combines in some sense both the “hydrogen atom” and the “black-body radiation” problems of quantum gravity. This analogy suggests that black-hole quantization may be the key to a quantum theory of gravity. During the last twenty-five years evidence has been mounting that black-hole surface area is indeed quantized, with uniformally spaced area eigenvalues. There is, however, no g...

A Generalized Uncertainty Principle in Quantum Gravity

We discuss a Gedanken experiment for the measurement of the area of the apparent horizon of a black hole in quantum gravity. Using rather general and model-independent considerations we find a generalized uncertainty principle which agrees with a similar result obtained in the framework of string theories. The result indicates that a minimum length of the order of the Planck length emerges natu...
